The larger the cash transaction, the greater the risk of forgeries. You may count large numbers of cash in front of your customer, or perhaps re-count and check before you send it all off to the bank. Yet checking each note individually with a banknote detector is just not an option. So what can be done to spot forgeries when large bundles of notes are being passed around quickly?

Buyer advice for note counters:-
At NoteCheckers.Com, we understand that choosing note counters can be confusing and a poor choice of purchase could work out to be very costly. Should you use simple scales to count notes and coins or would friction note counters be better? Do you need a note counter to also spot forged notes? Could you get away with a cheaper note counter or would an investment in a faster higher spec note counter be better in the long run?
The majority of note counters, even the cheap note counters, will give you a note-batching facility, along with note size detection and uv detection. In order to identify the majority of modern counterfeit Pound notes, like modern banknote detectors you will need magnetic thread detection or pattern recognition in your note counter. Printer connectivity and PC connectivity are things that you may or may not require on your note counter but they are available. As you will come to rely on your note counter, you may wish to consider a swap-out-warranty rather than a return-to-base warranty on your note counter as this will give you extra support for your note counter when you need it most. Forgery detection jargon buster for note counters:-
- Size Detection. This only halts the count on the note counter when a different denomination note has been mixed into your bundle (e.g. 1 x £10 in a bundle of £20s) and thus this function prevents miscounts.
- Ultra Violet. Nowadays, with uv detection, only simple counterfeit banknotes will be identified. This function is handy if you want to spot a random piece of copier paper that is in amongst your banknotes
- Pattern Recognition. Some note counters will utilize a table device, similar to a camera, to detect intricate patterns within a bank note. This method is commonly used by bank note sorting machines to identify between denominations, and not to identify forged notes
- Magnetic Ink. Only some bank notes actually contain magnetic inks or serial numbers, therefore it can be very effective - as long as you know which notes to apply this to. The more common notes with magnetic ink are US Dollars.
- Magnetic Thread. Many bank notes contain a metal thread within the paper substrate which has some magnetic properties. A centrally placed MG sensor on the bank note counter can detect the presence of a magnetic security thread very effectively. All note counters available from NoteCheckers.Com have this feature as it is essential for English Pounds.
- Coded Magnetic Thread. The metallic thread of many bank notes (inc English) can have a secret magnetic coding (almost like a digital signal coding) which is different for every note denomination. Special sensors can detect the presence and even read the code within the note at high counting speeds
- Fluorescence. Various combinations of fluorescent light sources and filtered responses/sensors allow the bank note paper quality to be controlled as a means to pick out very high quality counterfeit notes
- EMFLUX. Some bank notes contain covert magnetics of much lower strength than the magnetics usually used in note portraits, threads or serial numbers.
